Welcome to the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Miami.
It is an exciting time to be part of the ECE community, which sits at the intersection of technology, innovation and societal impact. The world is entering an era defined by intelligent systems, connected devices, quantum technologies and advanced automation — all of which rely on the expertise, creativity and curiosity of our students and faculty.
Our department is on a significant growth trajectory. We are expanding our faculty, innovating our curriculum and teaching methods, and investing in state-of-the-art research and teaching laboratories. These efforts position us to lead in emerging areas that will define the future of electrical and computer engineering.
We provide a rigorous, forward-looking academic environment that blends theory, experimentation and real-world application. Students gain hands-on experience in modern teaching labs and work closely with faculty who are leaders in research and education.
Research in our department spans four major clusters: AI-Powered Microchips and Systems, Robotics and Autonomous Systems, Quantum and Nano Technologies, and Cybersecurity and Cyber Physical Systems. These clusters form the foundation of our strategic vision for growth and collaboration. They connect our faculty and students with partners across the University of Miami, including the Miller School of Medicine, the Rosenstiel School of Marine, Atmospheric and Earth Science, the College of Arts and Sciences, and the School of Architecture, as well as with industry and national research institutions.
Looking ahead, our goal is to position the ECE Department as a hub of technological innovation and academic excellence. We are building programs that prepare students for leadership in healthcare, sustainability, security and intelligent systems while fostering creativity, entrepreneurship and interdisciplinary collaboration.
Whether you are a prospective student, faculty member, alumnus or partner organization, I invite you to explore our programs, connect with our faculty and join us as we shape the future of engineering and technology.
Warm regards,
Pinhas Ben Tzvi, Ph.D., P.E.
